Hello and Welcome!
It is a pleasure to meet you here in this space of hope and healing….
I thought it might help our journey together if I start by providing a bit of background around who I am and how I found myself “doing therapy” in different provinces. I don’t have a grand explanation: I simply feel a connection with the people and the places that I have called home at different times in my life. These lived experiences are a point of connection between myself and the clients I serve.
As a registered social worker, psychotherapist and a registered clinical counsellor, I have (thus far) completed a master of social work degree, an additional master’s degree, and various undergraduate degrees. The common element in my learning is a facination with human behaviour. I am deeply interested in how we as humans learn, grow and heal. My work as a therapist centers around understanding and mitigating human suffering. To this, I have over 23 years of experience working with youth, adults, groups and families in various environments, including clinical, community and education.
With this passion comes dedication to my own personal and professional growth. I continuously engage in post graduate education and hold up to date training in several evidence-based therapies. My love of learning continues undaunted as I plan my next phase: a docotorate degree in clinical psychology. I align with the wisdom of Yoga’s ancient teachings and bring my personal exploration of what it means to be human into my practice. I resonate with the beauty and magesty of water, trees and mountain vistas. I believe in their grounding and balancing properties. A practitioner of meditation for many years, I believe that wholistic healing (that of the mind, body and spirit) is where we find our freedom. Healing is a gift that comes from within. It is a gift we give to ourselves.
As a trauma survivor with lived experience of abuse, I sought therapy many years ago, hoping to answer profoundly difficult questions that I had about myself. In therapy, I developed the skills I needed to change harmful behavioural patterns, and the validating space I craved to explore who I was and what I wanted for my life. Therapy helped me find liberation from a lifetime of anxiety, depression, fear, shame and judgement. I bring my lived experience to my work as a deep committment to supporting others on their journey through life. I truly believe that no matter how stuck or broken you may feel, you are capable of healing and growth….of living a meaningful, purposeful, joy-filled life.
When I am not practicing therapy I love to meander about in nature, connect with my family, meditate and move, and feel inspired though reading and writing.
It is my hope that, after reading this, you have a sense of who I am and how I show up as a therapist. If you resonate with what I have written, if you want to make positive changes in your life, if you are considering reaching out to me, know that I will be here - honoured to walk with you.
“Darling,
Stand tall inside the discomfort of change.
Let it wash over you.
Drink the water.
Eat the salt.
Tell your body it is better than fine.
You are being cleansed and renewed and you’ll love the new horizon.
But for now, you must trust the moods of waves”
